ANNOUNCING SOAR/RON ELLIS SCHOLARSHIP 2024

The Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators is pleased to award an annual academic scholarship in administrative law, renamed the SOAR/RON ELLIS SCHOLARSHIP in honour of our late founder and mentor.

SOAR is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan association of Chairs, members, management and staff of the province’s administrative boards, agencies, regulators and tribunals.  SOAR’s mission is to advance administrative justice through education, advocacy and innovation.

To promote interest in and recognize dedication to the principles of

NOTICE is hereby given to the Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators' (S.O.A.R.) membership of proposed amendments to the SOAR By Law No 1.

This ten day notice is given pursuant to s. 63 of SOAR By Law No 1 ahead of SOAR's  Annual General Meeting on December 12, 2023, at the Arts and Letters Club in Toronto commencing at 5:10pm.

Amendments to SOAR's By Law are being proposed to bring SOAR into compliance with the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, 2010 (the “ONCA”).

This notice of election is being distributed to all SOAR Members pursuant to SOAR’s bylaw. SOAR invites its current members (must be eligible as at October 25, 2023) who are Chairs, Full-time adjudicators, Part-time adjudicators and Staff of Ontario adjudicative agencies, boards and commissions to consider serving on SOAR’s Board of Directors.

As a Director, you will govern and support SOAR and its activities through the development and monitoring of the strategic plan, committee work, education and training, financial operations and other

SOAR recently conducted preliminary research on current adjudicator performance evaluation practices, with a focus on Ontario tribunals. We hope this research will be a first step in a broader project of developing best practice guidelines for tribunals that wish to engage in such evaluation activities. The report includes recommendations for next steps.
