CPA Ontario is looking for an experienced designated accounting professional who has worked in the investigative accounting field to fulfill the role of Standards Enforcement Officer. Reporting to the Director, Standards Enforcement, the successful candidate will perform the preliminary review of complaints of professional misconduct, inform CPA Ontario members and the general public of the complaint review and investigation process, and assist the Professional Conduct Committee with the review of misconduct complaints and opinion requests. This position specializes in large, complicated and technical cases.
Major Responsibilities:
Communicating with complainants and members to obtain sufficient information about particular complaints of professional misconduct
Reviewing documentation provided by complainants and members, and preparing reports to the Professional Conduct Committee to facilitate their review process
Assisting with the transfer of cases directed by the Professional Conduct Committee for investigation to investigation & prosecutions staff
Assisting the Director, Standards Enforcement with analysis and assessment of ongoing workflow, and prioritization of files for review by the Professional Conduct Committee
Assisting with responses to members’ queries on the application of the Rules of Professional Conduct
Assisting other Standards Enforcement Officers, particularly with respect to more unusual and complex cases
Assisting the Director, Standards Enforcement in responding to questions from members of the public and the media about the complaints investigation process
Participating in CPA Ontario committees and CPA Canada committees, working groups and task forces, as assigned by the Director, Standards Enforcement, on matters related to or impacting the Rules of Professional Conduct or the operations of the Standards Enforcement service area
Qualification Requirements:
University degree
CPA designation with extensive post-qualification experience
Skilled and experienced at organizing voluminous, often technical documents to focus on their relevance with respect to the CPA Ontario Bylaws, Regulations, and Rules of Professional Conduct
Background in public practice, preferably with experience in industry
Experienced and skillful at report writing
Working knowledge of CPA Ontario Code of Professional Conduct (formerly the Rules of Professional Conduct)
Experience in investigative and forensic accounting assignments is preferred
Professional designation related to investigative and forensic accounting (IFA, CFE, CFI) is an asset
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Pro
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with difficult people
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Self-starter, with ability to seek out and research matters of interest to committees
