Director, Corporate Policy and Tribunal Relations

The Ministry of the Attorney General is seeking an innovative, strategic and collaborative individual to lead its Corporate Policy and Tribunal Relations Branch.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Attorney General, Policy and Adjudicative Tribunals Division, you will:

Tribunal Relations:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction and foster partnerships between the Policy and Adjudicative Tribunals Division (PATD), Ministry clusters and adjudicative tribunals.

  • Ensure that the Ministry's tribunal accountability and oversight responsibilities are met.

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development of transformational initiatives, common resources and tools for all of the Ministry's clusters and tribunals.

  • Ensure that the Minister, Deputy and Assistant Deputy Attorney General are provided with comprehensive analysis of cluster and tribunal program results, financial status, issues/risks as well as related options, recommendations and expert advice.

  • Strategically manage the processing of Order in Council appointments for tribunal members.

Corporate Policy Coordination:

  • Lead and direct policy corporate forecasting and the Ministry's relationship with Cabinet Office.

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the advancement of government commitments on federal/provincial/territorial (FPT) justice policy initiatives.

  • Build strong linkages with internal and external stakeholders and partners to support and coordinate corporate policy.

  • Direct the administration of the division. Location: 720 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario

  • You are a skilled influencer and have experience building relationships (founded on trust) inside and outside of your organization.

  • You have experience leading transformation, change and innovation, particularly in the spheres of information technology and facilities planning.

  • You are a transformational innovative thinker who can plan strategically and communicate a vision to those around you.

  • You have the proven ability to effectively utilize human, material and financial resources.

  • You have experience in leading the planning and delivery of innovative, effective and strategic policy and programs.

Stakeholder/Relationship Management:

  • You have the proven ability to manage complex relationships, develop and promote partnerships and maintain key contacts across the Ontario Public Service and with senior executives, Cluster Executive Chairs and Tribunal Chairs.

  • You work collaboratively with existing partners and develop relationships with new stakeholders.

  • You have experience dealing with diverse and influential stakeholders.

  • You are able to work across divisions and organizations with senior leaders to achieve results.

  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and experience dealing positively with others, especially in highly stressful situations.

  • You are skilled at providing advice and briefings regarding issues.

Issues Management, Judgment, Tact and Political Acuity:

  • You have flexibility and are open to new ideas that adapt to a changing environment.

  • You understand political issues and nuances and can successfully address problems, opportunities or political forces that affect the organization.

  • You have sound judgment on sensitive issues and have the required political acumen to engage and manage high-profile stakeholders in a politically complex environment, forging collaborative relationships.

  • You have significant experience in issues management including the ability to effectively advise senior management on emerging issues, crises and emergency situations.

  • You can leverage your skills and experience to build credibility and manage issues on key executive-level issues.

Technical Skills:

  • You have extensive experience delivering large-scale transformation and cultural change.

  • You are able to identify financial, human resource, IT and facilities-related risks for the program and the Ministry as a whole.

  • You have knowledge and experience in the agency field or a related field.

  • You have well-honed political acuity and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary range: $115,000.00 – $131,450.00 per year
