No One Knows How Toilets Work
How to change minds and build support for your ideas
Tuesday September 21, 2021
12:00pm- 2:00pm
Virtual On Zoom
Fee: $55.00 + HST
Session overview
Why do people say ‘no’ to good ideas or decline to follow expert advice—even when you’re the expert? Because most people, most of the time, dramatically overestimate their understanding of a situation.
It’s frustrating, until you know what to do—and that involves research into, of all things, toilets.
Key learning outcomes
In this session, participants will learn:
- How to anticipate other people’s disagreement
- Why persuasion is less about having good reasons and more about making people ready to hear those reasons
- How to use curiosity and dialogue to help people discover gaps in their own knowledge
By learning to persuade others to accept your ideas, you will also learn how to be more mentally flexible with your own opinions, and to be open to new information and evidence
The session will run 2-hours and involve a mix of presentation (1/3), exercises (1/3), and group discussion (1/3).
Who should attend
Anyone who deals with the public, co-workers, managers, stakeholders or others, where they have an interest in persuading others to accept a point of view, concept or information, which may be resisted.
