Join Professor Barbara Morris (Ph. D, U of Toronto), legal writing instructor and consultant, for an interactive online training session on effective writing. This course combines short, instructive presentations with practical, hands-on exercises that focus on how to produce clear, crisp, reader-friendly writing at the level of paragraph, sentence, and word. “Writing Crisply” is designed for tribunal and regulatory staff who write as part of their work, including emails, reports, and letters to tribunal members, colleagues, and members of the public. Counsel may also attend. This course will be lively and lots of fun—and your writing will improve too!

Professor Morris teaches and conducts workshops and plenaries for CIAJ's Decision Writing Seminar for Judges held annually in Montreal and CIAJ's Customized Training in Decision Writing for Tribunals, including the Refugee Appeal Division, The Immigration Appeal Division, The Human Rights Commission, The Social Security Tribunal of Canada, and the Ontario Energy Board. She is a presenter and instructor for Osgoode's annual course on Written Advocacy in Toronto (since 1996), for the School of Public Prosecutors' annual course in Ottawa ,and for SOAR/OPD's Advanced Decision Writing Seminar in Toronto. In addition to SOAR's "Writing Crisply" course, she has conducted writing courses and given lectures on plain language and clarity for The Advocates' Society, The Parole Board of Canada, The Ontario Workplace Safety and Insurance Tribunal, The Ontario Masters, the Immigration Division of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Board, The Privacy Commission, and many other legal firms and government organizations.
