Social Media 2: The Uses, Benefits and Challenges
Presented by SOAR's Administrative and Management Network (S.A.M.N.)
Overview
Social media has fundamentally changed the way in which government operates, and the expectations for doing so in the future. This has opened up significant opportunities for the adjudicative, investigative and regulatory sectors, but also prompted very real concerns and cautions.
How have expectations changed? When is it more or less appropriate for agencies to engage directly in social media? What are the implications for privacy and confidentiality? Does ‘Open Government’ mean something different for the justice sector?
This half-day session will build on S.A.M.N’s first Social Media program which was very well received. This program will discuss strategies and practical uses of social media in the adjudicative and regulatory sector. This will be balanced with cautionary tales and provocative questions. Attendees will hear from experienced social media users – and engage with each other through a series of group discussions.
