The College of Early Childhood Educators regulates the early childhood education profession in the public interest by ensuring Ontario’s early childhood educators meet requirements set out in the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007. The College issues Certificates of Registration, has established a code of ethics and standards of practice for the profession and responds to complaints through a complaints and discipline process. Currently the College has issued over 58,000 Certificates of Registration.
The College is seeking an experienced investigator with a deep working knowledge of the early childhood education field to conduct investigations of complaints at the College. Reporting to the Manager, Intake and Investigations, you:
Support the development and implementation of practices and procedures relating to complaints in accordance with legislated requirements and department policies.
Serve as staff support to the Complaints Committee of the College.
Develop investigation plans, interview complainants and witnesses and obtain relevant documents.
Complete professional, accurate, thorough and timely investigations for all cases assigned.
Inform your investigations and report writing with a good understanding of the practices and policies in the field of Early Childhood Education, relevant legislation and range of investigation methods.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with police, court officials, school board officials and legal counsel to gather information, facilitate necessary collaboration and assist the Complaints Committee.
Prepare investigation reports for the Complaints Committee in accordance with established policies, protocols and procedures and ensuring completeness, accuracy, relevancy and conciseness in written reports and documentation.
Testify as necessary in College prosecutions.
Ensure that correspondence for the Registrar’s signature is prepared promptly and that the content is accurate and of a high quality.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
Work experience in a regulatory environment.
Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures relating to complaints, investigations and tribunal hearings within a regulatory body.
Knowledge of the College’s regulatory environment, Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and the early childhood education profession.
Strong investigative, analytical, interpretative and writing skills to address complaints in a professional manner and transform information into comprehensive reports.
Highly professional communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, provide clear and concise information, prepare correspondence and reports and prepare and deliver presentations to various stakeholders.
Microsoft office and internet research skills, including social media.
Experience in alternate dispute resolution (highly desirable).
Registered Early Childhood Educator and work experience in an early childhood education environment (highly desirable).
Fluent in both official languages (an asset).

Location: Toronto with some travel related to investigations
