Through your leadership and governance of The Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, this independent body will maintain the highest standards of professionalism in the adjudication of complex and important appeals. The Tribunal plays a vital role in the workplace safety and insurance system of Ontario by hearing and deciding appeals from final decisions of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. As an adjudicative agency within the Ontario administrative justice system, the mission of the Tribunal is to provide quality adjudication in workplace safety and insurance appeals in accordance with the principles of natural justice on a fair and timely basis. Its legislative interpretations provide workers, employers, the Board, government and the public with a well-reasoned commentary on legislation in the workplace safety and insurance system.
As Chair, reporting to the Ontario Ministry of Labour through the Deputy Minister, you will guide your Vice-Chairs, Order-in-Council-appointed members and support staff in building the Tribunal’s capacity to expeditiously handle a wide range of appeals while inspiring a high performance culture. With a chief executive mandate, you will provide thought leadership and strategic direction in jurisprudence matters, while overseeing the progressive organizational management and modernized administration of the Tribunal. Bring strategic acuity to the planning process and appeals application triage. Set service and change priorities. Maintain positive relationships with related agencies, stakeholders, the public and the Ministry of Labour.
You have a legal background and are a leader with a strong understanding of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, you have acquired the requisite expertise and experience to guide a significant organization through growth and change. Equally suited to the complex legal and operational challenges of this pivotal role, you will add presence, sensitivity, adjudication and mediation skills to the Tribunal’s team.
