The Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators (SOAR) is seeking one or possibly two law students to provide research assistance on the general topic of term-limits for appointees to adjudicative and regulatory tribunals.
Aspects of the research include:
Continuation of research into the impact of an Ontario Government Directive limiting appointments to ten years for most adjudicative tribunals.
Continuation of research on how other jurisdictions in Canada and the Commonwealth dealt with appointments to the tribunals.
Research to support the development of a SOAR Statement of Principles on appointee term limits.
Preparation of a written report for public distribution
The mission of (SOAR) is to advance administrative justice through education, advocacy and innovation. The researcher will work directly with a committee of the Board comprised of senior adjudicators and tribunal staff.
This opportunity has the potential to lead to research paper suitable for submission for publication.
Hours are very flexible.
Remuneration at $25 per hour.
This opportunity would be particularly appropriate for a third year law student.
