Part Time Commissioner- Ontario Securities Commission

Part-Time Commissioner

The Ontario Securities Commission seeks Members (also known as Commissioners). The mandate of the Commission is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices, to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in capital markets, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. To learn more about the Commission, please review the Commission’s agency description and Statement of Priorities.

Members of the Commission perform three distinct roles in support of the Commission’s mandate – regulation, governance and adjudication as described below.

Regulation: Members approve and oversee the implementation of the Commission’s regulatory initiatives and priorities, make rules that have the force of law and adopt policies that influence the behaviour of capital market participants.

Governance: Members exercise oversight of the management of the financial and other affairs of the Commission as board directors and attend meetings of the board and its standing committees – audit and finance, governance and nominating, human resources and compensation and risk.

Adjudication: Members, other than the Chair of the Commission, preside over administrative proceedings brought before the Commission’s tribunal and act independently of their other roles to ensure hearings are conducted in a fair and impartial manner. Hearings before the Commission’s tribunal include enforcement proceedings brought by Commission staff, reviews of decisions made by self-regulatory organizations and other types of proceedings set out in the Commission’s Rules of Procedure. Members may also participate in the Adjudicative Committee.

The Public Appointments Secretariat (PAS) oversees all Ontario government appointments to provincial agencies and other community boards and organizations.
