Investigator, Team Lead - College of Early Childhood Educators

This is a full time, one year contract with the possibility of extension.

The College of Early Childhood Educators regulates the early childhood education profession in the public interest by ensuring Ontario’s early childhood educators meet requirements set out in the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007. The College issues Certificates of Registration, has established a code of ethics and standards of practice for the profession and responds to complaints through a complaints and discipline process. The College has over 50,000 current members.

Our Professional Regulation department is seeking a leader for its team of three investigators who brings a minimum of five years of experience in an investigative setting and two years of experience coordinating investigators.

Responsibilities:

Assistance to the Manager, Professional Conduct

Assists with investigator training and the development of departmental policies and practices.

Supports investigators in developing appropriate investigation plans and addressing any issues that arise during the investigation.

Working closely with the investigators, reviews investigation files on a regular basis and investigation reports prior to Complaints Committee meetings.

Keeps an updated status chart of cases, manages caseload of investigations and assigns cases appropriately.

Consults with Manager on complicated investigations and issues of policy that arise during the investigation process.

Reports to Manager on the progress of active investigations.

Reviews investigation reports with Manager prior to Complaints Committee meetings.

Investigations

Conducts investigations of matters in consultation with the Manager.

Prepares investigation reports as necessary for review by the Complaints Committee.

Qualifications:

Post-Secondary Education.

Private Investigator Licence or equivalent experience conducting investigations.

Superior written, verbal and interpersonal skills.

Effective interviewing and investigative techniques.

Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proven ability to coordinate and guide a team of staff.

Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and discretion.

Demonstrated ability to work through investigation and legislated processes.

Ability to work independently with a strong commitment to teamwork.

Experience in a regulatory environment (preferred).

Valid Ontario driver’s licence for travel within Ontario (preferred).

Experience in a legal setting and/or working knowledge of the laws, regulations and standards of practice governing early childhood educators (assets).

Bilingual, English and French, and/or RECE and/or LLB or JD (assets).
