City of Toronto- Administrative Penalty Tribunal

City of Toronto Seeking Residents to Join the Administrative Penalty Tribunal

Do you have a background in adjudication or mediation? Are you a good listener who can make decisions with tact and fairness?

The City of Toronto is seeking local residents to join the Administrative Penalty Tribunal (APT). The APT provides an independent review of administrative penalties given for parking, licensing, and traffic by-law infractions. APT members review the decisions of Screening Officers and have the authority to affirm, reduce, or cancel administrative penalties based on the merits of the case. Members are responsible for reviewing materials for each application they hear, conducting mediations where appropriate, presiding over hearings, rendering written decisions, and attending business meetings and training as required.

Public members are generally expected to conduct hearings 2-3 days per week or 6-12 days per month. Hearings are expected to last approximately 7 hours and will begin at 8:30 a.m. and finish at 4:30 p.m. Remuneration is provided.

If this sounds like the opportunity for you, you can learn more about the APT, the qualifications the City is looking for, and apply online at https://secure.toronto.ca/pa/decisionBody/461.do. Applications are due Monday May 31st.

If you have any questions about this opportunity or the application process, just contact the City of Toronto's Public Appointments Secretariat at appoint@toronto.ca or 416-397-0088.
